Alcohol & Drug Prevention | Education

Oregon counties work together on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse and related policies, systems and environment changes in their communities. Tobacco, drug and excessive alcohol use can cause and complicate many chronic diseases, including addiction. Reducing substance use and improving behavioral health are key priorities in public health efforts.

Gilliam County Public Health supports efforts to reduce harms associated with alcohol and substance use through individual strategies and environmental strategies.

  • Individual Strategies: Prevention efforts aimed at providing information, building skills, or supporting individuals or targeted groups of individuals.
  • Environmental Strategies: Prevention efforts aimed at changing or influencing community conditions, standards, institutions, structures, systems and policies that shape behaviors.
